Discover our MEMEX App prototype

The MEMEX app prototype was designed with the aim of creating «links» between people (users) and cultural heritage. Users can share stories of their daily life and connect them with other users of the App. MEMEX app has been developed in 3 different releases:

First release (MVP1)

In the first version (MVP1), which was the first prototype of the app, registered users could create stories by geolocating them on a map and posting them on the app so that other registered users could see them. Once the story has been uploaded, it is possible to attach multimedia files such as images, audio and video and locate a site or cultural heritage asset in the area where the story was created in order to add more content to the narrated experience. Stories can be filtered by category, title, keyword or via a map showing the specific location of each story, allowing you to explore and search for specific points of interest.

Second release (MVP2)

In the second version (MVP2) the Knowledge Graph (KG) was implemented, through which it is possible to visualize a graph of connections based on the relationships between stories that share similar information and cultural heritage stories. Also, compared to the MVP1, the user interface has been improved based on the feedback received from the testers.

Third release (MVP3)

In the third release (MVP3) the possibility to create «Journey» and «Collection» has been added. Journeys are an ordered group of public stories, while Collections are an unordered group of public stories. Additionally, the ability to explore your surroundings using Augmented Reality (AR) has been added. Through the camera of the smartphone it is possible to frame objects in the real world on which labels will appear capable of showing the description of the object framed. The description is taken from the KG, which using various open source databases (e.g., Europeana and Wikidata) retrieves the additional information of the object being framed. A 3D icon on the navigation bar allows you to switch between the web app and the AR app, which allows you to see your surroundings through AR.
